Climate Body

For this week’s assignment, we wanted to create a sound piece that both uses the body to control and contemplates the power this control has on the environment. We decided to use PoseNet to read body positions, specifically the wrists. As for the sounds and visuals, we started talking about drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which the Trump administration has been pushing, and the damage it is doing to the ecosystem there.

To illustrate the environmental degradation, we thought of using our bodies to somehow ‘erase’ the ecosystem, as the sound of the drill plays. And then to restore it upon the push of another button with some sort of nature sounds, e.g. birds chirping, rain, etc.
